I would like to do this in the future, the first step would be to pick a disease and then study it in both wild and captive animal populations to see what problems its causes and how it spreads. We could then look at the genetics of the disease in the lab to understand it better and see what stops it growing/spreading etc. this would help find a treatment and hopefully a cure.
Yes I would. It is important to help both animals and humans. It’s always good to research into diseases that effect animals as it’s always possible that the viruses or bacteria could also infect humans (e.g. zoonotic viruses) which are really really bad and will cause pandemics (e.g. like swine flu, avian flu, SARS etc).
