I have forgotten mostly. There are two types of muscle fast twitch and slow twitch muscles. Marathon runners tend to have more slow twitch muscles which accumulate less lactic acid so are better for endurance training and fast twitch work better for speed, so tend to be in higher proportions in sprinters. Lactic acid build up in the muscles will be due to anaerobic respiration. Best to talk to a sports scientist for a better answer 😀
When muscles contract they pull the bones and ligaments they are linked to and this allows us to move. Muscles use a lot of energy to move our bodies, waste products like lactic acid are produced when we move fast and this what can cause us to ache after exercise
