      I think you need to first start with the basics…Although I am not a specialist in this..I love chemistry and I scored the highest marks in Biochemistry 🙂 Let me give you an example: If you have a rock with unknown metal in it which you have brought from a cave that is millions of year old then you first need to do some analyses on the rock to find out what it is made up of and if there is a metal in it then the tests for determination of metals needs to be carried out: color, weight, composition, magnetism etc based on this and other research that you carry out…it may be possible to determine what you have discovered.
