No not on my own. Drug discovery is a collaborative processing involving many scientists from multiple disciplines.
For infectious disease research
Academic research – to find new targets for fighting infections
Chemistry – for initial formulation and optimisation of the compounds
Biochemistry – for protein production for vaccine research
Microbiology – to test how the drug kills different bacteria
Immunology – what does our immune system do when we are treated with the new drug
Pharmacology – what are the over effects of the drug on the body following infection]
Doctors, Epidemiology and Public Health – treatment of patients – what sort of vaccination strategy is needed? Monitoring disease progression following introduction of the drug or vaccine to the public
Business – marketing the drug
I have only been at my company for about 2 years so we haven’t discovered anything yet but some of our clients have some exciting leads. Often most of what we test doesn’t work and when it does it’s pretty exciting. A cure for cancer and a treatment for antibiotic resistant bacteria would be pretty great to help discover.

Thanks!
What has your team discovered then? Or is there anything you wish to discover? (ridiculous as you wish!)
